We are announcing today that the Amp 100% electric Chevrolet Equinox conversion will make its debut at the New York Auto Show, which commences on April 2nd. Show attendees will be among the first to take a test ride in this new American made, full-size crossover vehicle.
We unveiled the Equinox at the grand opening of our first showroom and U.S. production headquarters last month and since then have moved into production of the AMP’d Equinox. We have begun taking orders for the Equinox for summer 2010 delivery. We are proud to be the first company to bring a full-size, high performance American crossover electric vehicle to market.
If you can make it to the Auto Show, make sure to stop by and visit us on level one in the Electric Vehicle Pavilion. The show will run from April 2nd through April 11th at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center. Vistitors to the show will be the first to test drive this groundbreaking vehicle.

Steve Burns, founder and President of Amp, has been talking about starting an Electric Car company for 25 years. 3 years ago, in March 2007, the dream came together. Steve says, "the time was right". "The batteries were good enough. The motors were good enough. The American people were reeling from dependence on foreign oil." A Team of 6 guys came together to build the dream. They were business people, engineers, and software experts. The company was supported by funds from friends and family. After 3 years the "recipe" is now perfected. The Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize car, a GM Saturn Sky, was Amp's first 100% electric car. Amp is the 1st to put an American made 100% Electric Car on the market! Amp is running production to convert the GM Saturn Sky, and the Chevy Equinox to be 100% Electric Vehicles.
Steve Burns' dream of 25 years is a reality!
The story behind the company name originates with Steve Burns, president and founder of Amp Electric Vehicles. Steve wanted something "electric" for our company name. He said, "Chevy took Volt, so we took Amp". Amp stands for "Advanced Mechanical Products". However, we go by Amp Electric Vehicles.
